THE BRIEF
The brief involved exploring the post-Covid world, aiming to identify opportunities for envisioning a better future through potentially new behaviours and the technologies, systems or experiences that could inspire them.
THE OUTCOME
An online immersive karaoke experience with others worldwide. Hosted on the Spotify app, it aims to create weak-tie friendships that could form long-term friendships helping adults cope and find friendships post-Covid. The deliverables included a prototype of the design and supporting hero images.
THE SPARK
The idea originated from reflecting on my coping mechanisms during the pandemic, primarily centred around listening to music. This led to the how might we question of how might introverted young adults create connections through music.
PROCESS WORK
USER SURVEY
The process started with a survey of 35 participants which showed that Spotify was the most popular music streaming service among young adults, mainly because of its exclusive ‘Friend Activity’ feature. This led me to choose Spotify as the ideal platform for the project.
FORMUALTING THE ‘HOW MIGHT WE’ QUESTION
Through various ideation activities, I formulated the “How Might We” question: ‘How might we create communication through music for shy individuals?’ After much ideation, the solution emerged as implementing a karaoke singing experience in Spotify. This approach aims to help users connect with others using a medium they are familiar and comfortable with.
WIREFRAMING
The design process began with initial low-fidelity sketches of the app’s user flow. After several iterations and reviews, high-fidelity wireframes were created using Adobe XD. These wireframes underwent multiple rounds of prototyping and user testing. The screens displayed above highlight key aspects of SpotifyDuet, providing a comprehensive representation of the karaoke experience user flow.
